Top summer vacation destinations include Italy, Bali, London, Maui, and San Diego, which combine culture, beaches, and natural beauty. For nature lovers, Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park in the United States offer breathtaking scenery. Other famous places include Paris, Barcelona, and the picturesque French Riviera.

Summer is in full swing. The post-pandemic tourism boom continues, with low-cost airlines making summer trips more affordable. According to a recent Ipsos survey, nearly 70% of respondents intend to take a vacation in summer 2025 to “unplug” and “get away from it all.”

As a travel agency, you want to provide a varied choice of packages to accommodate all types of tourists. Social media and the advent of travel influencers have increased public awareness of various travel options and international places. Whether it’s a last-minute booking or a family holiday, there’s a hotel package to suit every travel style.

Everyone has different travel requirements. Families with young children are unlikely to travel to the same destinations as pals in their twenties or a couple on honeymoon.

When deciding on summer vacation destinations, always keep your clients’ individual needs in mind. Certain vacationers prioritize a variety of criteria, including price, temperatures, crowds, and history. Ask your customer for their top goals so that you may help them experience a variety of popular destinations.

If you’re afraid of sweating in the sun and would rather have a refreshing breeze than humid air, a “coolcation” may be ideal. This new travel trend replaces conventional frolicking in the summer heat with trips to locales where temperatures remain pleasant – and even a little chilly – even at their highest points.

Here are our favorite global destinations with mild year-round temps, regardless of hemisphere. Just remember to pack a light jacket.

If you live north of the equator and want to travel in the same hemisphere, consider where the summers are less oppressive. Here are a few of our favorite sites.

1. Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

The Upper Peninsula, which floats above Michigan’s mainland mitten, is surrounded by the Great Lakes, whose massive size keeps temperatures mild all year, with summer days hovering in the mid-70°s F (mid-20°s C). The Upper Peninsula, a popular outdoor destination, is home to Isle Royale National Park (one of the least-visited reserves in the National Park Service’s portfolio) and Pictured Rocks National Seashore, both of which beckon with their cool, clear waters. Mackinac (pronounced MACK-in-awe) Island is also an excellent coolcation destination, with 80% of the island designated as a protected state park and no cars allowed. Choose a bike or horse taxi instead.

2. Mexico City, Mexico

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

Mexico’s expansive capital is located along the country’s high-elevation spine at 7349ft (2240m) above sea level, giving it an ideal summer getaway spot – without the heat. (During the warmest part of the year, temperatures hover in the mid-70s / mid-20s Celsius.) You may have to dodge a summer rain shower or two, but CDMX will repay you with world-class museums and gourmet delights. Explore pre-Columbian history at the Museo Nacional de Antropología, admire Mexican folk art at the Museo de Arte Popular, and finish with a cuisine tour or dinner at a legendary CDMX restaurant like Quintonil or Contramar.

3. Iceland

It’s right in the name, folks. Iceland’s short-but-sweet summer retains a cold in the air, but it avoids the snow, ice, wind, and gloom of its winters, showing instead the spectacular windswept volcanic vistas that have inspired travelers for generations. While the Golden Circle around Reykjavík is a wonderful starting place, we recommend taking the Ring Road north or east to avoid crowds. Explore Westfjords for whale watching, Fimmvörðuháls Trail for glacier and volcanic trekking, and Borgarfjörður Eystri for the City of the Elves. Expect breathtaking nature – without breaking a sweat.

4. Sweden, Norway and Finland

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

This trio of Nordic countries offers alluring snowy wonderlands and northern lights in the winter, but summer is also a great time to visit if you want to escape the heat. Temperatures in these big nations will range from the mid-60°s (about 18°C) to the mid-70°s (low 20°C), with exceptionally long days due to the countries’ northerly latitudes. Among thousands of alternatives, we prefer relaxing afternoons on Stockholm patios, seeing Norway’s stunning fjords, and going on the water in Finnish Lakeland.

5. Ireland

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

Ireland’s summer romanticism is hard to surpass, whether you’re strolling the emerald countryside or immersing yourself in one of its beautiful capitals. Rain may come and go, but temperatures remain pleasant and outdoor fun beckons, especially near the shore (go inland, however, and you’ll likely be battling midges). Grab a set of wheels and travel the Wild Atlantic Way to explore some of Ireland’s most beautiful coastline, from County Cork in the south to Malin Head in the North. This is Ireland at its most spectacular.

6. Coastal Pacific Northwest, USA

While Washington State and Oregon are well-known for their wet weather, summer in the Pacific Northwest gives a respite from the rain, bringing sun and temperate temperatures that make viewing the region’s magnificent natural attractions enjoyable. Between the two states, there are four national parks to select from (Olympic, Mt Rainier, North Cascades, and Crater Lake), thousands of acres of national forest, and hundreds of miles of breathtaking coastline right out of a fantasy story. The region’s cities also come alive with festivals and festivities during the summer months.

However, keep in mind that temperatures can rise in the high-desert areas east of the Cascades, so if you don’t want to sweat, stick to the west.

7. Hokkaidō, Japan

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

When winter snow falls, Hokkaidō is one of Japan’s top ski destinations. In the summer, it provides a respite from the heat and humidity that descends on the south coast. Take a road trip through the stunning countryside, go hiking among the mountains in Japan’s largest alpine park, Daisetsuzan National Park, or visit Shiretoko National Park to try to spot an Ezo brown bear. After you’ve had enough of the outdoors, make time to attend Sapporo’s renowned summer festival. There will be beer, yes.

These southern hemisphere locations are excellent for two reasons if you’re in the middle of the northern hemisphere summer and want to get away from the heat. Later on, you can take advantage of the warm summer weather or experience a real winter (due to reversed seasons).

8. Arequipa, Peru

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

Arequipa experiences a dry and rainy season instead of a summer or winter, like many other places of Peru. Despite this, the White City enjoys nice temperatures almost all year round due to its high elevation. See the stunning halls of Monasterio de Santa Catalina, have a chicha (corn beer) and some food at La Nueva Palomino, or stroll around the old streets of Peru’s second city, which was previously its capital. If you’re feeling more daring, head to the neighboring Cañón del Colca to witness condors soaring over one of the world’s deepest valleys.

9. Tasmania, Australia

Because of its closeness to the Southern Ocean and the chilly winds that blow up from Antarctica, Australia’s strawberry-shaped island-state provides a summer experience that is distinct from that of the mainland. The weather is a little unpredictable because of the same winds, but at least you won’t be perspiring. Experience the wild outdoors by walking amid the enormous swamp gum trees, which are among the highest in the world, or rafting the Franklin River at Mount Field National Park. If rain threatens to ruin your fun, plan on spending the day at Hobart’s boundary-pushing MONA. Try the native wine varieties along the island’s east coast.

10. Cape Town, South Africa

Top 10 Vacation Spots for Summer

Travel to the southwestern coast of South Africa if you’re searching for a chic, windy summer vacation spot far from home. The climate of Cape Town and the surrounding area is typically characterized as Mediterranean, with more stable year-round temperatures than any other place in the nation. A double plus is that the Cape Peninsula escapes most of the summer rains. Take advantage of the pleasant weather and climb the famous Table Mountain, or visit the beaches of Bloubergstrand to see the mountain from a different but as breathtaking vantage point.
