But, before resetting your Nighthawk router, it is suggested to place it in an open, higher, and center-most area of your home.
Note: Bear in mind that the power cycle and the reset are two different processes. Power cycle is simply unplugging and plugging back of your Netgear router. Whereas the resetting process will delete all the customize settings including username, password, and configuration settings made on your Netgear router.
So, before initiating the factory reset process, it is suggested to take the back up of your router’s settings. Here’s how to reset your Nighthawk router:
Steps to Reset a Nighthawk Router
- Plug in your Netgear Nighthawk router.
- Don’t forget it to disconnect your Nighthawk router from your modem and other devices.
- Locate the reset hole on your Nighthawk router and once found, push it gently using a pin or a paper clip.
- Wait for a couple of minutes for your Netgear device to fully reboot.

Now, it’s time to configure your Nighthawk device again using routerlogin.net web address. Just in case, you experience routerlogin not working issue, then you can use 192.168.1.1 instead.

How to Configure a Nighthawk Router?
Step 1: Power on Your Netgear Nighthawk Router.
Step 2: Connect your Netgear router to the modem using an Ethernet cable.
Step 3: Wait for the power LED on your Nighthawk router to become stable.
Step 4: Turn on a PC or laptop and launch a web browser of your choice.
Step 5: Head over to the browser’ address bar and type routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1. In order to prevent any login-related issues, it is suggested – do not use the browser’s search bar.
Step 6: Once you’re done, hit the Enter key.
Step 7: Netgear router login screen appears.
Step 8: Fill in the default Netgear router admin username and password and click on Log In.
Step 9: Netgear Genie setup wizard will appear.
Step 10: Follow the on-screen instructions.
