Here are eight steps that can make installation of your ceiling fan by yourself much easier:

1. Removing the Existing Light Fitting

·  You must make sure that the electricity to circuit is turned off and then, carefully get rid of the glass shade from the old light fixture.

·  Then, you need to unscrew the remaining nuts or screws that grip the fixture to the ceiling.

·  You should then lower the fixture and sever connections of the wires by twisting off the plastic connectors from the ends of the wires.

2. Getting rid of the Box to Cut out a New Hole

·  Eliminate the old electrical box from the ceiling. If it’s fixed to a joist, set it free with a flat bar. If it is in the suspended from of a bar, you should take it off the metal plate to take off the box; then pry the bar from the roof joists.

·  Then, hold a ½ inch thick box against the ceiling, which is positioned on a joist, and trace it around with the help of a pencil.

·  Cut along the line that your drew with the help of a drywall saw.

Tip: you can hold a vacuum cleaner next to the saw to catch the dust and not leti go here and there.

3. Attaching a New Electrical Box

·  Put the electrical cable that is coming from the ceiling through the knockout hole in the box. Also, make sure that there is a cable connector connected to the knockout hole.

·  Set the box inside the hole cut through the ceiling and push it tight against the underneath of the roof joist.

·  Then, attach the box to the roof joist with the two 1 and a 1/2-inch number. 10 hex-head screws provided. Put in the screws with a drill or a driver that is well prepared with a 5/16-inch nut-driver tip.

·  You should then wrap the cable’s unadorned copper wire around the grounding screw that is inside the box. Thereafter, allow the wire end to hang down.

4.   Glue on the Ceiling Medallion

·  Apply a small drop of urethane-based glue to the hind area of the ceiling medallion.

·  After that, pass the wires through the medallion that is present above.

·  Centre the medallion on the box and push it in. Secure it with four 6d final nails driven into the roof joist.

·   Then, fix the nail heads and fill it with waterproof or spackle.

5. Mounting the Ceiling Plate

·  Clasp the fan’s metal ceiling plate up with the box and pull the wires over its centre hole.

·  Then, attach the ceiling plate to the box with two 1 and a 1/2-inch long 10-32 machine screws.

Tip: If you are then going to paint the medallion, you should do it before installing your ceiling plate.

6.   Then you can start assembling the Fan Components

·  Keep the fan on the floor, and then put the wires coming from the motor through the middle of the covering. Set the covering on top of the motor.

·  Next, pass the wires through the hollow down pipe.

·  Then, thread the down pipe into the topmost area of the motor. Use a wrench to tighten up the square-head to lock up the screw on the side of the pipe.

Tip: The pipe’s threads should have a factory-applied coating and you must not remove this coating as it keeps the pipe from detaching.

7. Making the Wire Connections

·  Connect one side of the canopy into the ceiling plate.

·  With the help twist-on wire connectors, join the two green wires to the bare copper wire that can be seen  from the cable. Also, if your room is wired differently, then you should consult a licensed electrician for better results and efficiency.

·  Then, join the two white wires.

·  After that, connect the two black wires.

·  The next step is to swing the fan up, into place against the medallion and secure it with the canopy screws.

8.   Finally, Attach the Blades and Lights

·  Attach every fan blade to a blade iron which is the bracket that grips the blade to the fan. Then, secure the blade irons to the motor with the screws that you have been provided with.

·  Plug in the fan’s light-fixture housing into the wire dangling from the underneath of the fan’s motor.

·  Install all the shades and lightbulbs.
