What you’ll notice is that the focus seems to be on the dial pad and your Caller ID. At first glance, it looks like you can call any number you can already call on your iPhone – that includes those in the contacts list because the call doesn’t go through.

However, you can’t make calls from the home screen on the watch, so that’s something that’s going to need addressing. Also, you have to be looking at your Watch to do it, which is a bit fiddly if you’re looking down at your iPhone screen.

When it does work, though, the interface looks nice and slick. We just have one gripe, and that’s the fact that you can’t directly place a call from the Siri watch face – that means you have to navigate through the rest of the screen first, which is an extra step.

Also, there’s no way to listen to a phone call through the Apple Watch, even if it does work. It seems you can listen to a call over the speaker, but you can’t place a voice call – at least, not yet.

To answer a call, you’ll need to hold down the side button for around a second, and that’s a tiny bit of a fiddle when your phone is sitting a metre away from your Watch.

It’s perhaps a good idea, though, as an easy-to-access option to take calls when you don’t have your phone with you, so that you can ignore that call.

Where’s the camera?

The camera is another feature that’s likely to have you wondering where it is. The camera feature was touted as one of the main selling points of the Series 4. However, it’s not an option from the software or hardware on the watch yet, which means you have to rely on your phone for photography.

For now, at least. Apple is clearly working on bringing this camera feature to the Apple Watch, but there’s no clear timeline on it yet, and we’re not expecting it to arrive at the launch of the new Watch.

If and when it does arrive, we’d expect it to have been altered to work with the face of the watch, rather than the display as it does on the Series 4 iPhone. That means you might not be able to just have it sit right at the top of the dial pad, for example, if it’s been designed to sit in a particular place on the Series 4 watch face.

But if it’s really a priority for Apple, then it’s going to arrive on the Apple Watch Series 4.

Should I upgrade?

If you’re after an Apple Watch that doubles as a fitness tracker and/or watch face, you don’t really need the Watch Series 4’s bigger display or faster speed.

However, if you want the new Watch but the price is beyond your budget, then this might just be the one for you.

The improvements in performance and battery life are worth the upgrade, too.

The Apple Watch Series 4 is a promising update. However, there’s no date on when it’s going to be available, and the price is not cheap.

There’s no official release date for the Apple Watch Series 4 yet, but most reports agree that the Watch Series 4 will be available in the fall, though it might launch later than September.

If you’re in the market for an Apple Watch and don’t want to wait, we’ve got you covered, even if you don’t have an Apple Watch Series 1 or 2.

Originally, Apple was going to launch the Apple Watch Series 4 on September 10, 2018, but it later pulled the watch from its September 9 date and released it in early October instead.

Smartwatches are expected to launch in October, as September is usually the month when new Apple devices are unveiled. This year, Apple has also announced an Apple Watch Series 4 event on Wednesday, September 12, in Brooklyn, New York, which would make it highly likely that the new wearable will be revealed there.

A September launch will give Apple plenty of time to get the new watch ready for its autumn release, as well as letting the company give its existing smartwatch customers a little time to upgrade before the Series 4 is released.

In some markets, including Australia, Russia, and Switzerland, the Apple Watch Series 4 has been delayed, according to BGR, but the exact details remain unknown.

BGR was first to report on the delay

On September 4, it was reported that the Apple Watch Series 4 will be released on the same day as the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max. A month later, it was reported that the Apple Watch Series 4 may be delayed due to supply shortages. The tech blog claims that Apple is only expected to have around two million Series 4 Watches ready to go on launch day, which is half of what it would need.

Eleven analysts have predicted the cost of the Apple Watch Series 4. On average, the analysts predict the new Watch will cost $379 in the US, £359 in the UK, and AU$519 in Australia. For the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, the cost of each phone has been estimated at $749, $999, and $1,249, respectively, although the latest Apple Watch rumors suggest the Series 4 will cost more.

However, even the highest estimates for the Series 4 still put the price well below the price of the previous Apple Watch, which typically starts at $329 (£329, AU$469).

Should I wait?

There’s a good chance you should wait. The Apple Watch Series 3 launched in September 2017, so it’s unlikely you’ll find the new model cheaper that soon, and it will be quite some time before the next Apple Watch is released.

We don’t know if the Series 4 will cost more, but it could – the Apple Watch Series 4 comes with more expensive components, including an S4 chip which enables faster performance. But some components might not be updated, like the digital crown, and the Watch’s water.
