It’s not easy to find the perfect career if such a thing even exists. Today, there are more potential job choices out there than ever before, even with automation becoming more prevalent. So it can be confusing when there is a lot of choices, but it can also be difficult to choose because everyone wants a job in which they can be happy. It’s no longer just something that pays the bills; job satisfaction is crucial.

Having a job you enjoy is part of this; if you have a job you dislike, you’ll be miserable not just at work but at home too, and this is sure to have a detrimental effect on your mental health condition.

We are all very much more aware of the fact that mental health is just as important as physical health, and we are beginning to learn how to take care of our minds in the right way. Having a job you enjoy is part of this; if you have a job you dislike, you’ll be miserable not just at work but at home too, and this is sure to have a detrimental effect on your mental health condition. Therefore, you must choose a career you’ll enjoy, no matter what it might be.

Teaching could be a good option for you. It’s certainly a career path that is open to all, but of course, that doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for you – you will need to be a certain kind of person to be a good teacher. With that in mind, here are some of the signs that teaching is for you; if you recognize yourself in any of these (or all of them), perhaps it’s time to rethink your career choices and start focusing on becoming a teacher after all.

You Value Meaningful Work

You might feel that teachers aren’t paid as much as they should be, or that the hours they have to work are much longer than most people realize (and a lot of work has to be done at home too) and think that teaching, therefore, isn’t for you. That is perfectly valid; as we’ve said, not everyone will want to be a teacher, and not everyone will enjoy being a teacher.

However, if these things don’t worry you because you aren’t going into teaching to become a millionaire and you aren’t interested in a job you can leave at the door when you go home because you know that teaching is meaningful work, this is different and is a definite sign that you would make an excellent teacher. After all, understanding this is half the battle.

If you value the chance to make a difference in other people’s lives, you’ll value the chance to be a teacher. Here you can see the difference you’re making first-hand. Not only that, but teaching is the ideal career in which to make a positive difference in your own life. You’ll feel great because you are helping others and achieving something wonderful, you’ll have excellent job satisfaction, you’ll have a job for life, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to advance once you have achieved your MA education to help you get ahead. What more could you ask for?

You Love Children If you want to become a teacher but don’t enjoy spending time with children, you may need to rethink your plans. Alternatively, you could choose to

become an adult education teacher, which is just as important and could be far more ideal for you.

However, if you love children and are good at entertaining them and speaking to them, teaching might be perfect for you. In order to offer an excellent education, teachers really do need to enjoy being with children. When you think of a teacher’s day, you’ll see they spend more time with children than with adults, so of course, if you don’t like the company of children teaching is not going to appeal, and it’s best to look elsewhere for a career.

If you are able to communicate naturally with children, keep their attention, show authority without being scary, and if you feel energized when being with children rather than absolutely exhausted, these are all signs that you could make an excellent teacher, so it’s certainly something worth considering.

You’re An Optimist

When you’re a teacher, you must be an optimist and have a positive attitude at all times. Of course, there will be days that are more challenging than others, and certainly, you’ll have times in your life when things aren’t going right for whatever reason, but you’ll still need to maintain that positive attitude for your pupils. Every time you go into your classroom, you need to greet your students with positivity and optimism no matter what else is happening in your life.

This is not easy to do, but if you’re an optimist, it will come to you more naturally than if you are a pessimist at heart. Remember, the vibe you give off in the classroom will affect everyone you’re teaching. If you want the children in your care to be good learners and behave well, positivity is what they need. So, if you’re always positive no matter what is happening around you, you might be a great teacher.

You’re Patient

No one is perfect, and when you’re a teacher, you’re going to have your patience tried, perhaps every single day. It might be a rowdy child, it might be a falling out between friends that you have to deal with, it might be that some of the class just can’t grasp a certain concept you’re trying to teach even though you personally find it a simple one. It might even be the children’s parents who try your patience. This is inevitable. How you handle things will show you whether teaching is the right choice for you.

Some people are inherently patient, and some will get frustrated easily, possibly even becoming angry or at least very irritated as a result. If you fall into the latter category, you’ll find it hard to be a teacher, even if you do love children and want to help them as much as possible; you won’t be able to help them if you get impatient when they’re not learning in the way you want them to, for example. However, if you are a patient person who will be able to keep explaining something until every child in the classroom gets it, why not apply to be a teacher?
