A study by the security firm, Kaspersky has found malware inside CamScanner — an app which has been around for about a decade and accumulated 100 million downloads on Android.
The report says security researchers discovered malicious code inside the CamScanner’s versions published between June and July. CamScanner’s developers reportedly added a new advertisement module in that period.
The malware, once activated, is capable of executing and downloading additional malign files on its own in the background. On CamScanner specifically, the module was programmed to launch intrusive ads across the entire phone. In a few cases, it also signed up users for paid subscriptions without their consent.
Since the revelations went live on Kaspersky’s blog, Google has taken down CamScanner from the Android app store.
In a statement, CamScanner agreed that a new ad SDK called AdHub they’ve added was responsible for this and said: “after rounds of security checks, we have not found any evidence showing the module could cause any leak of document data.”

corner of your screen. This will start your device’s camera, allowing you to take pictures of your
documents. - Line up the edges of the pages with the camera frame on your phone. Press the camera icon, to
take the picture. - Once the picture is captured, CamScanner will look for the edges of the page, allowing you to
crop out any unwanted background in the photo. Line up the green lines/circles with the edges
of your paper. Press the check mark when you have everything in place. - CamScanner will then automatically enhance the photo. If you are satisfied with the results, hit
the check mark to continue. Or adjust as needed. - The photo will save as a new document. To add multiple pages to the same document, press the

Then sign in with the SAME CS account on your new phone, your files will be downloaded automatically. If you don’t have a CamScanner account, you can sign up for it either on the web or in the app and then sign in on your old phone to sync files.

If you have backed up the data in CamScanner by clicking CamScanner settings – security & backup – backup on your old phone, you can restore your data by moving the [IntSig] folder into the root directory of internal sd card of your new phone and then clicking CamScanner Settings->Security & Backup->Restore.
3. The last way is to import the images into CamScanner maunually.
The images are saved in /CamScanner/.images/.bak (It is a hidden folder). You can select and share them to CamScanner in your phone again. Sorry that all file names, tags and notes cannot be restored in this way.
As CamScanner files cannot be restored simply by moving its folder in sdcard, it is recommended to back up CamScanner data by the CS cloud service in case of any unexpected data loss.
